Can everyone
be hypnotised?
Yes, virtually anyone can be hypnotised. Although, people who visualise well
tend to enter the hypnotic state more easily.
Will I be completely unconscious?
No, in a state of hypnosis a person is very alert. But your attention
is focused inward. You are in a state of very deep relaxation in which the
critical analytical part of the brain is pushed aside and the subconscious is
more accessible.
Have I lost my will while I'm under
hypnosis?
Perhaps you're concerned to give over control to
the therapist and that he or she may let you do something against your will.
This will never happen. You will never reveal any information if you don't want
to. It is always your choice to inform the therapist of anything. You choose. A
hypnotheraputic session offers you room to dig up hidden causes of a problem and
to deal with that problem. The therapist is merely a moderator.
Can hypnotherapy be used with children?
Children are mentally flexible and therefore hypnotherapy
is certainly suited to be used with children, although in general only with
children older than 5 . Younger children are often not able to concentrate long
enough to benefit from a session. Nevertheless, some therapists have reported
good results with very young children.
Should I inform my doctor?
When you are seeing a doctor for a problem, it is wise to inform your
doctor that you consider a complementary treatment. Sometimes a hypnotherapist
will even be reluctant to start a treatment, if the client hasn't discussed this
with their GP or specialist.
